Me, The Internet & Seniors

Hi there! It's me Aarsh Srivastava, a computer science undergraduate. I have written this blog here on blogger.com, assuming it is going to reach out to most of our juniors whom I might have/have not interacted with. I have also assumed that most of you are in grades 3-4 and are caught playing games most of the time. And it's totally fine to read this blog even some of you're in higher grades.

Whatever you will read below is all about my personal experience. An experience that has taught me something valuable. I know reading a blog might be boring for y'all especially when a blog contains a hell of a lot of paragraphs. Keeping this in mind, I have emphasized my experience in two major points. SCROLL DOWN PLEASE!

⦿ Internet: Making it one of my friends

According to my observation, with growing digitalization where you can find at least one smartphone in almost every house, still, kids are not aware of the benefits of the internet whatsoever. All they know is play store & games. Keeping eyes closed they can unlock the phone and open the game but they are rarely seen visiting google chrome for exploring productive things on their own. I am sharing my story with you which is of 12 years old me. And it's nothing that I am boasting myself through this story. Way back in 2011/12, one of my family members had a phone with an internet connection of course. I saw the Facebook logo in an app. I was curious to know about it. I was not much acquainted with the word 'Facebook' before but had heard somewhere about it. My enthusiasm pushed me to make a profile on Facebook. And to be honest, I was the single person in my class who had a Facebook ID at that time. Later on, I helped most of my friends to make their own. Nowadays, when they meet me, they ask me with surprise on their face "How come you learned so much about the internet at that age?" and in response to their question, I try to create humor out of the situation with a smirk on my face.  I also started using Google for surfing lots of stuff related to studies & other than studies as well. Being able to surf the internet for knowledge at an early age is so fruitful and has long-term effects. You can broaden your English proficiency (mainly writing). Problem-solving skills will be enhanced to some extent like whenever you are stuck on any problem, you can search for a similar problem on google and take some hints/ideas from there. But, but you must try to solve problems on your own first & what I've written has nothing to do with plagiarism or cheating. Suppose, you've 35 friends in your class then you should count 36, keeping in mind that the internet is your friend as well.

⦿ Good Seniors: Your second teachers

What I believe is that one cannot easily feel comfortable to ask their queries (unrelated to studies) to their teachers but one can ask such queries to their seniors.

Being surrounded by ample of good seniors always helps. Whether you are stuck on any problem, you are perplexed on making some vital decisions related to further studies, personal life, career, etc. They are always there to help you.

The one question that might arise right now in your mind is " Will they assist me? Seniors seem so busy cause of their higher education. They don't have time generally. And most of them are not interested to help either." So, my answer is that most of them are not like so. It always depends on how you initiate the conversation. Never ever flex them unnecessarily just because you need some sort of help from them. Be always a genuine seeker, sweet person, and a good listener. Being a good listener is very important. I had one junior of mine. What he did was a bit humorous but annoying at the same time. He questioned me about his specific problem. It was not even one minute of what I was answering him, he started interrupting me like he already knew the answer. So, my suggestion to y'all is that never do this to your senior. If you have asked them a question then it's your duty to listen to them patiently.

Sometimes, the way you ask a question is wrong either grammatically or conceptually but these things don't matter if your intention is solely to learn something. Let me write an instance here. I remember it was 2013/14 I had started to be in touch with some of my finest seniors on Facebook. In mutual leisure time, I used to chat with them. I used to ask them my queries and they were so cooperative & I am still in touch with them and they are still cooperative. When I read those chats I found a hell of lots of grammar mistakes and immature queries. But what could I do? Even my age was immature :D. And it's totally fine to have grammar mistakes. Never worry thinking 'What will my seniors think if I have grammatical mistakes?'. They will never make fun of you. As much as possible, they will try to solve your queries. Somewhere they also think that the problems they had to go through, you will not go through the same under their guidance.

So, I hope you find this blog somewhat helpful and are not bored reading till last 😉

NOTE: Yes, I have intentionally used some words that students of grades 3-4 might not be aware of. The concrete reason for this is I want them to surf Google for those words and if you noticed the first point of this blog is all about using the internet for productivity from an early age. I also request the elder ones who are reading this blog to make your younger siblings/children understand about this blog if you find it helpful.

Thank You!
